Montefalco DOC wines come from the verdant rolling hills of Umbria, in central Italy. The vineyards themselves must be located in the municipalities of Montefalco and Bevagna, a half-hour drive southeast of Perugia. This area is steeped in grape-growing and wine-making traditions, dating all the way back to the Etruscans. Local native grapes – such as Sagrantino and Trebbiano Spoletino – thrive here, alongside other grapes such as Sangiovese. The DOCG laws were adapted to allow for the establishment of the Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG title in 1992.
