Romano Levi
Founded in 1924 in Neive by Romano and Lidia Levi, it is owned by Lucio Scaratti and Luigi Schiappapietra today. The distillery uses direct-fire stills to make gorgeous grappas second to none. The unique labels were designed by Romano himself, who used to hand-paint each one.
THE HISTORY
Romano Levi is a legendary grappa producer hailing from Neive, a picturesque town in the heart of the Barbaresco wine region. The distillery focuses exclusively on crafting grappa, using pomace from top local winemakers with secret recipes and sometimes aromatics. Levi’s commitment to quality and tradition earned him a cult following among enthusiasts and connoisseurs worldwide, also because of unique touches, like his once handpainted labels and their depiction of the “Donna Selvatica”. Today, the distiller is owned by Luigi Schiappapietra and Lucio Scaratti, who run the company alongside Lucio’s daughter Elisa. The grappas are made using a direct fire still.
THE TERROIR
Romani Levi gets the pomace for its grappa from some of the most important wineries in Le Langhe, making sure that the raw materials for his grappas are the finest quality.
