Poderi Einaudi Barolo Ludo DOCG 2017 James Suckling 31/05/2021 94
Verbiage

A lot of fruit purity in the nose with ripe strawberries, flowers and some crushed stones. Full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and so much power, yet it’s polished and focused and not aggressive. Give it three or four years of bottle age. Plenty of potential here. Try after 2025. – James Suckling, May 2021

Poderi Einaudi Barolo “Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi” DOCG 2017 James Suckling 31/05/2021 94
Verbiage

Subtle and refined with dried strawberries, flowers, cream and cedar. Medium body. Fine, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. The tannins melt into the wine nicely. Drink in 2024. – James Suckling, May 2021

Speri Valpolicella Classico Superiore “Ripasso” DOC 2018 Wine Spectator 31/05/2021 90
Verbiage

This bright red is floral and high-toned on the nose, with lots of herb and spice on the palate accenting flavors of wild cherry and Mandarin orange peel. It’s sleek and medium-bodied, with light, taut tannins emerging on the finish. Drink now through 2026. 6,600 cases made, 3,000 cases imported. — AN, Wine Spectator, May 2021

Speri Valpolicella Classico Superiore “Sant’Urbano” DOC 2017 Wine Spectator 31/05/2021 90
Verbiage

Floral and high-toned on the nose, this light-footed red offers a spicy underpinning and brambly notes of wild cherry and strawberry fruit, while Black tea leaf and salty mineral notes show through on the finish. There’s focus here, and depth to the flavor range, but in weight and form it’s akin to a lighter, brighter style of Valpolicella. Drink now through 2024. 5,000 cases made, 500 cases imported.” — AN, Wine Spectator, May 2021

Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva “Costa Grande” DOCG 2017 Decanter 05/05/2021 94
Verbiage

One of four single-vineyard bottlings, Costa Grande hails from a 1.5-hectare plot in Boscarelli’s north-facing Vigna Grande site. Only 400 metres from the vineyards that surround the estate, it sits 100 metres higher in altitude on predominantly red clay. Extraordinarily focused, it marries leather and tar with rose, pomegranate and orange oil. Lovely fruit purity gets an extra boost from the succulent acidity, while linear tannins are fine and framing, providing a confident grip. Definitely one of the top wines of this challenging vintage.” -Michaela Morris, Decanter, May 2021

Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2018 Decanter 05/05/2021 92
Verbiage

Produced since 1968 and the mainstay of Boscarelli’s portfolio, this Vino Nobile has changed little since its inception. Canaiolo Nero, Colorino and Mammolo round out Sangiovese, and ageing is in various sizes of used Allier and Slavonian oak barrels. This is all leather and tar mixed with dry, gravelly soil to start. But there is a still-youthful vibrancy with plum and orange zest poking through. It flows gracefully, allowing long, dusty tannins to coat the palate. There’s sneaky power here, and crunchiness to the fruit.” -Michaela Morris, Decanter, May 2021

Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva DOCG 2017 Decanter 05/05/2021 93
Verbiage

For this Riserva, the De Ferrari brothers select bunches from four or five parcels throughout their historic vineyards in the area of Cervognano. This captivates with fragrances of mint, tobacco, woodland berries and dusty earth, while lush red cherry fills the mouth. There’s a sumptuousness to the fruit but also a purity which permeates Boscarelli’s wines. It glides fluidly, supported by integrated powdery tannins. Pressed flowers and sweet herbs resonate on the finish.” -Michaela Morris, Decanter, May 2021

Speri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico “Sant’Urbano” DOCG 2016 Wine Spectator 30/04/2021 92
Verbiage

A well-knit, medium- to full-bodied red, with light, taut tannins married to bright flavors of wild cherry, tangerine peel, star anise and brambly herb and underbrush, ending with a racy finish. Drink now through 2031. 8,300 cases made, 2,500 cases imported. — AN, Wine Spectator, Apr. 2021
