“The delicious 2015 Etna Bianco Archineri is a terrific white wine with a deep sense of varietal and territorial identity. It presents extra crisp and elegant lines with mild citrusy intensity and deeply etched mineral lines of flint and brimstone. These qualities will be interesting to watch as the wine continues its aging trajectory. “The 2015 Etna Rosso Archineri is a well-priced wine that gives you a great taste of this extreme, volcanic territory in the deep south of Italy. This vintage offers slightly lower intensity with more drying mineral notes instead of bold primary fruit. This is a common characteristic of Nerello Mascalese in 2015. The wine is aged in tonneaux for 14 months and this process has done much to increase the textural richness and the structure of the wine (given the slightly weaker fruit).” – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Aug. 2017

“Fruit for the 2014 Etna Rosso Archineri is sourced from vines planted 850 meters above sea level that are up to 80 years old. Thanks to those old vines, there’s a lot of history to taste here. This wine stands out, thanks to the elegance and grace of its bouquet. It offers beautifully refined tones of fresh fruit and blue flower with subtle tones of smoke, ash and licorice at the back. It glides over the palate with pure silkiness and polished intensity. Grace with power: that’s how I would summarize this wine in just three words. “It’s hard not to be moved by the extraordinary 2014 Etna Rosso Vigna Barbagalli. This wine is soaring in character and quality and is fast on its route to becoming one of the icons of vino Italiano. It’s hard to know where to start. Many great Etna reds are Burgundian in character, but oddly, this wine appears more Bordelaise, especially in this excellent vintage. The wine is beautifully conditioned and fine, yet it is exuberant and fruit forward at the same time. It opens to delicate aromas of dried flowers, spice, wild berry and black currant. The tannins are extremely well managed and they appear silky and firm on the close. “Here is one of my favorite Etna overachievers. The 2013 Etna Rosso Vigna Barbagalli was born in a more-challenging vintage here on the volcano, but it sails smoothly through any possible weakness. This is a magnificent expression from Southern Italy. The wine has the mild consistency and light garnet color of a Burgundian Pinot Noir. But the bouquet is anything but understated. It delivers powerful aromas of wild berry, balsam herb, licorice and those distinctive touches of volcano ash. In the mouth, the wine shows smooth and long silkiness. “With fruit sourced 800 meters above sea level on the flank of the mighty Mount Etna, the 2015 Etna Bianco (100% Carricante) is a versatile and food friendly wine. It offers standard aromas of citrus, lime and garden herb. Perhaps the bouquet is slightly penalized by a greenish note of wild asparagus or oregano. “Made only with Nerello Mascalese, the 2016 Etna Rosato is another one of my favorite rosé wines from Etna. This effort shows extraordinary freshness and inner vitality with almost salt-like minerality. It presents a beautifully pale pink color and a deep sense of vibrant, tonic energy. The natural saltiness of the wine invites a food pairing of stuffed calamari or Sicilian pasta with swordfish, mint and eggplant.
