Conti Costanti Vermiglio Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2014 Wine & Spirits 01/03/2018 92
Verbiage

“Andrea Costanti decided not to bottle a Brunello in the cool, rainy 2014 vintage, declassifying the fruit into Vermiglio, a label he used in the 1990s and brought back for this wine. The fruit has a wonderful sappy quality that carries all across the palate, remaining balanced as it picks up hints of warm spice and sun-ripened cherry tomato. Charming and accessible now, it has the substance and freshness to improve over the next several years.” – Wine & Spirits, Mar. 1, 2018

Pietradolce Archineri Etna Bianco DOC 2016 Decanter 01/03/2018 93
Verbiage

“Located at 850m on the eastern slopes of Etna, 100-120 year old pre-phylloxera Carricante vines give precise, stony, mineral flavours from volcanic soils, freshened by intense diurnal temperature swings. Lees-stirring and ageing in bottle has added to the classy, refined and ageworthy style” -Decanter, Mar. 2018

Cantina Santadi Latinia 2011 Vinous 01/03/2018 94
Verbiage

“Dark golden amber. Pungent grapefruit jelly, orange peel, caramel and honey notes on the captivating nose. Rich and creamy on entry, then lighter and lively thanks to an underpinning of fresh minerality. Caramel and sweet notes last and last. Made with 100% Nasco, this is a famous, multiple-award-winning wine, the charms of which have almost always escaped me; not so in this vintage. One of the very best versions of Latinias ever.” – Ian D’Agata, VInous, Mar. 2018

Cantina Santadi Noras Cannonau di Sardegna DOC 2016 Vinous 01/03/2018 91
Verbiage

“Bright dark red. Perfumed aromas of strawberry and sweet herbs. Enters rich and ripe, then turns more austere; a steely backbone provides support and cut to the ripe fruit flavors. Finishes long and clean, with good mineral undertone.” – Ian D’Agata, VInous, Mar. 2018

Cantina Santadi Grotta Rossa Carignano del Sulcis DOC 2015 Vinous 01/03/2018 89
Verbiage

“Bright red. Aromas and flavors of juicy red fruit and dark berries are complemented by fresh and clean inky and graphite nuances. Simple and easygoing but very enjoyable and fun to drink.” – Ian D’Agata, VInous, Mar. 2018

Cantina Santadi Rocca Rubia Carignano del Sulcis Riserva DOC 2014 Vinous 01/03/2018 93
Verbiage

“An elegant, medium- to full-bodied red, with fine tannins married to flavors of dried strawberry and baked black cherry fruit, fig cake and dried thyme, revealing an underpinning of fresh, loamy earth. Creamy finish. Drink now through 2023.”  -A.N., Wine Spectator, Feb. 2018

Cantina Santadi Cala Silente Vermentino di Sardegna DOC 2016 Vinous 01/03/2018 91
Verbiage

“Dark straw-yellow. Intense notes of anise, rosemary and sage complicate crushed rocks and licorice. Fresh hints of cut grass and more licorice add complexity to the apricot and peach flavors. Finishes long, with a youthfully chewy note. The 2016 vintage strikes me as being an especially good one for Cala Silente.” – Ian D’Agata, VInous, Mar. 2018

Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013 Wine Advocate 28/02/2018 93
Verbiage

“The Fuligni 2013 Brunello di Montalcino exhibits a dark garnet color with copper-like highlights at the rim. The wine is sophisticated and austere in character, and the fruit tones are etched and firm. All of these qualities contribute to the overall sense of finesse and pedigree presented by Fuligni. Dark cherry and dried fruit segue to mineral aromas and campfire ash. The wine maintains a somewhat serious and introspective quality throughout. This Annata Brunello shows more nuance compared to the 2012 Riserva.” – Monica Larner, WIne Advocate, Feb. 28, 2018

Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2012 Wine Advocate 28/02/2018 92
Verbiage

“From the moment you put your nose into the bouquet, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva gives off heat, ripe fruit and power. Brunello from this warm vintage tends to be bold, muscular and emphatic, and this wine definitely supports that claim. Black cherry, prune and plum at the core are surrounded by soft oak spice and cinnamon. The Fuligni winemaking team has done its best to tame the fruit (and allow for the more delicate aromas to emerge), but this wine moves toward the bigger side of the Brunello spectrum nonetheless.” – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb. 28, 2018

Poderi Einaudi Dogliani DOCG 2016 Wine Spectator 28/02/2018 90
Verbiage

“A beam of pure cherry and blackberry holds court in this linear, juicy red. Balanced and focused, with a long, fruit-filled finish. Drink now through 2020. 9,000 cases made.” –BS, Wine Spectator, Feb. 28, 2018
